2008 Festival Success
2008 was the Fifth Festival! The Cornwall Festival of Cycling first started in 2004 and is now the largest of its kind in the country. It includes a number of public roadshows as well as school based cycle training and roadshows. Due to its success and popularity the Festival has become an annual event. Despite the rainy weather the 2008 Festival was a great success with lots of people taking part in the Festival fun!
Public Roadshows – we hit the road visiting Launceston, Truro and Penzance. A range of activities were on offer including bike try-out sessions and the chance to make a smoothie using pedal power alone. A penny farthing and uni-cyclist provided entertainment and braver members of the crowd even had a go themselves! People were able to pick up information on local cycle routes and facilities as well as talk to the cycling experts on hand.
School Cycle Training – over 120 students benefitted from cycle training during the Festival. Level 2 National Standard ‘Bikeability’ training was offered at Newquay Tretherras and Wadebridge Secondary whilst students at Braddock, Trewidland and Launceston Primary benefitted from level 1 training. 5 students were also taught to ride a bike.
School Roadshows – nearly 900 students from primary and secondary schools across the county joined in the fun activities on offer. The roadshows visited:
- Newquay Tretherras
- Wadebridge Secondary
- Bosvigo
- St Uny
- Camborne Science and Community College
- Braddock
- Trewidland
- Launceston Primary
